Setting the standard: digital PCR's role in accurate infectious disease testing
Harnessing the precision of digital PCR, a global team of measurement experts led by the NML at LGC have developed a reference measurement procedure (RMP) that standardises nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) results.
Pioneering precision in carbon isotope measurement
NML at LGC mass spectrometry measurements have been recognised by the Commission on Isotopic Abundances and Atomic Weights (CIAAW) as the 'best measurement' of the 13C/12C isotope ratio in Vienna Peedee belemnite (VPDB).

European standard for equine DNA quantitation method
A groundbreaking method developed has been officially published as a European standard by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN). The standard outlines a DNA-based method for quantifying equine DNA relative to mammalian DNA in raw beef products.
Breast cancer awareness month
Under the GenomeMET project and in collaboration with NIM China, we are developing reference methods to characterise gene mutations in breast cancer.

Reference Materials Catalogue 2024
Our Reference Materials Catalogue 2024 is now available to view.
We develop and produce reference materials that underpin complex measurements. Many of our reference materials are within LGC's scope of accreditation to ISO 17034 as a reference material producer.
World Metrology Day 2024
World Metrology Day is the annual celebration of the signature of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875, designed to ensure that the same measurement system is recognised and used globally. The theme this year is Sustainability; We measure today for a sustainble tomorrow.

Engineering Biology
Engineering biology has the potential to offer solutions to a range of societal challenges including food, biomedicines, clean growth and the environment. Our expertise in standards and metrology (measurement science) is helping to create more reliable engineering biology technologies to improve wellbeing and de-risk innovation.
International Review of Science 2023
The International Review of Science was commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to evaluate the quality of science and the impact of the National Measurement Laboratory (NML) at LGC and Government Chemist (GC) function over the period 2016 to 2023.
