NML to enhance pandemic preparedness in a strategic partnership with The Pandemic Institute

The National Measurement Laboratory (NML) at LGC are pleased to have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Pandemic Institute (TPI). The signing, which took place on 3 June 2024 in Liverpool, marks the beginning of a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing pandemic preparedness. We look forward to combining expertise together with the Pandemic Institute at a new base in the Spine building and with academic links the Liverpool City Region (LCR) to ensure scientific readiness for future pandemics.

We’re excited to be working more closely with The Pandemic Institute and other key stakeholders in the LCR. Liverpool has a long history of driving innovation in infectious disease research, and the city region has recently been designated by the UK Government as a High Potential Opportunity for foreign investment in vaccine development and manufacture.”- Dr Julian Braybrook, Director, National Measurement Laboratory

Our partnering for excellence approach at the NML is driven by creating strong local ties across the UK. For the LCR, three primary drivers for us creating a base here were the connections into the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool health and life sciences ecosystem, strategic partnership opportunities, such as that with TPI, and direct access to SMEs.

“The close proximity to the universities, other leading institutions and business community will enable us to develop our long-term collaborative metrology strategy further, increase access to our national capabilities, and deliver expert support within measurement research and innovation in Liverpool City Region for years to come.” Commented, Harry Barraza, Relationship Development Director, NML at LGC.
